Everything in this world costs some money. Nothing is free, travel is also included there. Yet, the notion that travel is impossible for anyone without a trust fund is false. A little bit of planning and some time-tested hacks can ensure that everyone has a shot at adventure.

There is a general fear of staying with strangers, but veteran travellers stand by the opinion that people on couch surfing are kind and helpful. While some incidents do occur, there are multiple options available. A website which connects with local travellers are well reviewed and trusted, can be chosen without thinking further.

3. You’ll die while hitchhiking

Not everyone ends up in a ditch on the side of a road. Being well equipped and well prepared will almost always guarantee that you will reach your destination safely and not end up being eaten by a bear. Although exceptions do exist!

4. Women shouldn’t travel alone

Men and women both face risks while travelling, while women have to deal with additional obstacles. While some countries should be avoided by women, others are perfectly safe to explore. Everyday millions of women travel the world alone, and that’s enough to say to prove that it’s doable.

5. Only the young can be travellers, old can be tourists

Much too many people that I’ve come across believe that travel is only something that you can do in your twenties. This cannot be further away from the truth. Age doesn’t matter. Although older people may require more planning and less spontaneity, it is certainly possible.

This is certainly not the case. Planning ahead and research goes a long way in your travel being more affordable, and tour companies are almost always more expensive. If you think you’re about to book a great deal, separate out the components and check the individual pricing. You will be amazed to see how you can cut the prices and can have an amazing travel experience without seeking any of those expensive package deals.

7. English is spoken everywhere

While it’s becoming increasingly common, it primarily depends on where you’re travelling. In some places where most of us assume that English would be widespread, like France and Japan, it really isn’t. Using gestures can often work wonders while trying to overcome the language barrier. Alternatively, pointing to a map and looking lost can also help! 😉
