Top 7 Indian Movies That Will Inspire Your International Trips

Bollywood movies have always been a big influence in my life. From my style to my travel, a lot of it is inspired by cinema and art. The best part about movies besides good music is the stunning locations and the major travel ideas that give. Often movies expose us to undiscovered gems and try to encourage us to dream bigger and chase some exciting and yet achievable travel goals. So here is a list of some quirky international locations inspired by my favourite Bollywood movies that will surely still have some wanderlust and passion for travel. 

1. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara– Spain

Spain is a gorgeous location that without a doubt is on every millennial’s bucket list after watching Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. The charm of the movie is unparalleled, from the finesse of the Spanish countryside, the jumping-off planes, and diving into the depths of the sea, to racing through the long, winding lanes, and feeling the adrenaline rush as the bulls chase you.

The movie highlights and projects Spain in the most brilliant light, the gorgeous cities of Seville, Pamplona, and Bunol are excellent. The stunning Montserrat mountains of Catalonia can be spotted in many initial scenes of the movie and are a captivating visit. The Lloret de Mar beach which is just off the Catalonia Coast is home to a scenic shore and is famous for its scuba diving and water sports.

The La Tomatina festival of Bunol is undoubtedly the spotlight festival of Spain, and also one of the most and one of the major reasons why tourists choose August to travel to Spain. With its idyllic beaches, vibrant nightlife and festivities, and charming cities overflowing with history and art, Spain never fails to impress.

2. Jab Harry Met Sejal– Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Other Parts of Europe

The romantic comedy directed by Imtiaz Ali though average still shows us some beautiful locations all over Europe. The Anushka and Shah Rukh starrer begin in the sprawling city of Amsterdam, the capital city of Netherlands. Amsterdam’s canal cruises are uniquely fascinating and the best way to tour the city as well. The capital of Europe, Vienna is beautiful beyond belief and a blend of old and new. It also has some of the most picturesque cafes and restaurants.

Prague is also where the hit song of the movie Radha is shot and it has slowly become a preferred choice of Bollywood and is on the bucket lists of lots of travellers. Budapest, the capital of Hungary and the “Little Paris” of Europe is packed with tourist attractions from museums, churches, and art galleries. Lastly is one of the oldest countries of Portugal, Lisbon. It has some stunning riverfront architecture, a romantic aura, and scenic views. The movie is nothing short of a love letter to Europe and one must visit these places and truly experience it all.

3. Tamasha– Corsica

The Imtiaz Ali directed romance starring Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor explores the beauty of the stunning Mediterranean island hidden between the borders of France and Italy- Corsica.  Corsica is home to a plethora of cities with radiant sunrises, pristine beaches, and crystal clear waters.

Corsica is known for its seafood. It’s local delicacies like crayfish, oysters, and veal with olives are widely recommended. Corsica also gives one a lot of options for outdoor activities, ranging from mountain climbing to quad biking and white water activities like rafting. Corsica’s coastline is an experience to cherish, and one can rent a car and drive cruise down these coastal lanes.

The Bavella Mountains are the treasure of this place and offer nothing short of a magical and tranquil view. Cote des Nacres or Mother of Pearl Coast is a famous attraction and is worth a visit. The best time to visit this destination is between April and October when it’s not too hot and not too cold. Tamasha introduced us to this hidden coastal gem that appeals to many because of its untouched, pure aura, and stunning views, and it’s highly recommended for those looking for beach, breeze, and a break.

4. Queen– Paris and Amsterdam

Queen, a cinematic gem, and a modern tale has a perfect balance and blend of both locations. It is a brilliant movie that revolves around Rani, played by Kangana Ranaut, who goes on a solo trip to Europe. As we follow Rani’s journey of self-discovery, we see some of the most stunning places all over Europe. Maintaining its postcard-perfect charm, Champs Élysées is a well-known avenue in Paris.

A cultural hotspot, it has small eateries, luxury shops and also the Arc de Triomphe, to which one can climb up for an impressive view of the city. The iconic Eiffel Tower is an unparalleled beauty indeed. One must also visit the restaurant Le Vauban which is popular for its Normandy cream and wholesome seafood.

Amsterdam is heaven for the thrill-seeking tourist. One can also visit the Van Gogh Museum, or the city’s beloved Red Light District, which is extremely famous. All in all, the entire vibe and aura of the place is impeccable and contagious, it’s lively, fun and vibrant, and one should visit it and cherish it just like Rani did in Queen.

5. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge– Switzerland

The classic movie broke multiple box-office records and made its way into every movie lover’s heart. It revolves around Shah Rukh and Kajol’s characters Raj and Simran, and it is set in the beautiful locations of Switzerland. The entire movie unfolds in the lovely pastoral meadows, snowy Swiss Alps, and charming villages.

The St. Mauritius Church where Raj and Simran go to pray is iconic and a beautiful place to visit. Parts of the popular song from the movie “Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main” were recorded in Gstaad, a lively village in western Switzerland. Gstaad has a collection of winter sports opportunities and is also home to many gourmet restaurants.

Another location, Jungfraujoch is the highest point in entire Europe and is known for its icy glaciers and the breathtaking view of the Swiss Alps. The emerald green Lake Lungeren in central Switzerland is also beautiful. Switzerland is a great destination for those who want to enjoy the Alps, snow, and some breathtaking views.

6. Cocktail– Cape Town

The port city on South Africa’s southwest coast peninsula is the hit location showcased in many parts of Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan’s cocktail. It has a summer Meditteranean climate and is overflowing with vibrancy and culture. The snug towns of Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl are home to award-winning wines and are surrounded by striking mountains and valleys.

One can try out wine tasting as well as admire the intricate architecture on the way. A highlight is Boulders Beach where one can meet some adorable African Penguins. On the eastern slopes of Table Mountain is Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden and it’s a great trip for nature lovers. One can also take the Walk to Freedom Tour, and explore in-depth South Africa’s rich culture and history. One of the most crowded places is always the city centre or the Camps Bay along the beachfront, which has a variety of fine dining restaurant options.

The serene Maiden’s Cove Beach is where the super hit song “Tum Hi Ho Bandhu” is shot and is known for its beautiful view of the Twelve Apostles, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Cape Town in recent times has become a hit location and with good reason. A great visit for those who want a vacation to relax, unwind, and party.

7. Jagga Jasoos– Thailand

The movie includes several locations from Cape Town to Morrocco and Thailand. However, the one that it focuses on and is absolutely stunning is definitely Thailand. The architectural marvel, The Grand Palace is located in the heart of Bangkok and is one of the most famous tourist spots. The historic Temple of Emerald Buddha is the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand.  When in Thailand one should definitely visit the gem of Southeast Asia in Krabi, the Phi Phi Islands. These islands boast of crystal clear water, tropical beaches, and breathtaking views of the ocean.

Krabi also has many scenic yoga retreats and is one of the most tranquil and picturesque places. This idyllic province has white sand beaches, limestone crafts, and a mix of both leisure activities and water sports like snorkelling and diving. Krabi is a great choice for a trip with the whole family because it’s full of surprises and things to discover that adults and children will enjoy equally.
