Rumi, a poet who is so close to my heart, always surpasses my expectations. Travelling needs a calm mind and an open heart. We need to accept our surroundings with humility. Music is one such art form that connects our soul with a place, person or time. The songs listed below may help to develop that soulful connection. Let’s march to the tunes of these travel tracks.

1. “Photograph” by Ed Sheeran

One of the most effective ways to preserve your memories is the pictures we click or the videos we shoot while making those memories.  The lyrics of this track provides meaning to the entire concept of travelling.

We make memories, we keep those memories preserved in photographs .“Photograph” is a song about the unique struggles of long-distance relationships. Sheeran urges his partner to look at a photograph of the two of them when things get tough and remember the good times. The harmonious tune of the track makes it a soulful option to listen to while one is travelling.

2. “The Long Road” by Eddie Vedder and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

Eat pray love is one of the most acclaimed travel movies of all time. It covers the journey of a woman who is out to find her own self. With the input of an Indian singer, this song makes it to the perfect travel playlist.

These two lines are my most favourite lines from the song. The feeling of loneliness is absent while we are travelling. We are so busy creating happiness and memories that we tend to forget our problems and issues. All of these precious moments won’t last forever but that is exactly what adds to the beauty of these memories. If they were to go on forever, when would we create new memories? 

Moments are never perfect. They are meant to be flawed but then these flaws are what makes a moment worth remembering. Imperfectly perfect moments are a part of every beautiful journey, every momentous travel journey. Go out and find yourself. Explore the facets of your personality that were in dark due to the constant stress, pain and pressure of your daily mundane life.

3. “Take me home, country road” by John Denver

Take me home denotes the feeling of homesickness. Denver sets the scene of his “almost heaven”, describing the scenic beauty of West Virginia and the various beautiful landscapes it has to offer .this song, although dedicated to West Virginia, can be taken up for any journey. It interprets how the singer is missing his home among the mountains and how the radio is making him more homesick. The love for a particular place transcends all boundaries thus making it a perfect travel tune. We all feel what the singer tries to tell us through these words. Home is where we find solace. Through this song, we travel through the beautiful Landscape of the singer’s home town .we feel the cool hills and the warm sunshine from the comfort of our own home. 

4. “Sweet Home Alabama” by Lynyrd Skynyrd

“Sweet home Alabama where the skies are so blueSweet home AlabamaLord, I’m coming home to you”

The song originally is an answer for racism. It speaks up against racism. Just like the song by John Denver, this song focuses on showing the people the real beauty of Alabama. Again, even though it is dedicated to a specific place, this song is a very good travel tune. The rhythmic tune of the guitar and the lyrics add up to the beauty of the song, making this classic a famous travel song.

5. “Hey there Delilah” by Plain White T’s

This song is particularly very close to my heart. A song ahead of its time, this track is dedicated to an individual named Delilah who lives in the Urban New York City. Indicating towards a long-distance relationship, this song provides every lover a small tinge of hope that one day everything will fall in place.

Although this track is not a dedicated travel tune, the slow rhythmic guitar and the and Higgenson’s soothing voice makes it worth a listen while you are on a journey to explore the unknown.

6. “Hymn for the Weekend” by Coldplay

The entire song is shot in The bylanes of India. India, also known as the land of various cultures and religious harmony, adds the additional effect to the track. 

“Hymn for the Weekend” by Coldplay is about finding the ability to do awesome things together with someone whose impact in your life verges on the “angelic.”

This track is from Coldplay’s noted album “A Head Full of Dreams”. And it was released as the second single from that project, by Parlophone and Atlantic Records, on 25 January 2016. 

Music takes you places, places where we have never been to. Music heals a soul and helps us connect with a place. Travelling helps you to identify your own self. It opens up new facets of your personality that were hidden for so long . Since, both of these elements help us understand who we actually are and what we are actually feeling, it is safe to say that travelling and music are some of the basic prerequisites of a happy soul and a content heart.
